TMJ Dysfunction

At SoliDerma we use Botox to treat a number of medical conditions. TMJ, or temporomandibular joint disorder, is a condition that can cause a significant amount of pain in a person’s jaw and impact quality of life. TMJ can be treated, and it’s painful symptoms lessened, with Botox injections from the experts at SoliDerma.

What is TMJ Dysfunction?

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder is when a person’s TMJ is not functioning properly and is causing pain and other side effects. Often, it is hard to determine what exactly causes one’s TMJ disorder. Sometimes patients experience TMJ problems due to arthritis or an injury to the jaw, or they may develop it from years of clenching the jaw and grinding their teeth.

The temporomandibular joint is what connects your jawbone to the skull. When this joint and the connected muscle are impaired, patients experience pain in the jaw and face and can suffer from a number of other symptoms including, but not limited to; Jaw pain, Earache, Difficulty chewing, Facial pain and TMJ locking.

Patients suffering from the painful symptoms of TMJ disorder may benefit from Botox treatment.

Botox for TMJ dysfunction.

Botox is injected into particular muscles to stop the muscle from contracting. This can be particularly helpful in cases of TMJ treatment. The Botox, when injected by an expert, can stop the transmission of neural signals telling the muscle in the jaw, the masseter muscle, to contract, thus relaxing the tense, hyperactive muscles and relieving pain. Although Botox injection results are temporary, they generally last several months and can be repeated as necessary when symptoms start to return.
