Perpetual Frowning.

Are you tired of looking upset or disappointed even when you’re not because of your turned down mouth corners? Do you suffer from a perpetual frown? Here at SoliDerma we often treat patients with perpetual frowning using botox injection. An effective, temporary treatment, Botox is a great way to correct turned down mouth corners without surgery!

Botox for Perpetual Frowning.

The depressor anguli oris muscle controls the action of frowning. It starts in the mandible and extends up to the corner of the mouth. Hyperactivity of the depressor anguli oris can cause the corners of the mouth to be constantly turned down, giving the appearance of a perpetual frown.

When Botox Cosmetic is injected into the depressor anguli oris muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse signals causing the muscle to relax. When the depressor anguli oris relaxes it releases the corners of the mouth, leveling out the mouth and diminishing the appearance of a frown. Botox injections coupled with a filler injection into marionette lines is especially effective at rejuvenating the mouth area and getting rid of that perpetual frown.

Perpetual Frowning FAQs

Q: Do Botox injections hurt?

A: Botox injections are typically painless, but patients concerned can let the doctor know and he/she will apply a topical numbing agent to the injection site before beginning the procedure.

Q: What is the recovery after Botox for down turned mouth?

A: Fortunately, there is no downtime after Botox injections. Most patients resume normal daily activities and return to work right after treatment. It is normal to experience some redness or swelling of the area after treatment, but this should go away within a few days of the procedure.

Q: Are there other procedures that can help perpetual frowning?

A: Botox is the most effective non-invasive treatment for droopy mouth corners, but it may be beneficial to have facial filler injections at the same time to fill in any marionette lines that may be contributing to the appearance of a perpetual frown.

Q: How long does Botox last?

A: The results of Botox injections vary from patient to patient, however, results can last up to 4 to 6 months. Once the corners of the mouth begin to droop again, the Botox procedure can be performed again.
