Gummy Smile

Most people have a small area of exposed gum above their teeth when they smile. For some, though, this area of exposed gum is larger than normal, creating what is known as a “gummy smile.” This condition has traditionally been treated with surgical procedures, leaving many people hesitant to even seek treatment. Now, however, there is a nonsurgical, noninvasive way to treat too much gum exposure—with Botox.

An overly gummy smile can greatly affect a person’s self-esteem and often cause a person to hide their smile. There are a few reasons why a person may have a gummier grin than another, with the most common reasons being a thin upper lip and/or an upper lip muscle that is hyperactive and pulls up the top lip higher than normal. No matter the reason, the expert injectors at SoliDerma can minimise the appearance of the gums with Botox injections.T>

Gummy smile reduction is a simple and quick procedure performed by our doctor.

When the condition is caused by a hyperactive upper lip muscle, the doctor will inject botox into the upper lip, causing the muscle to relax and limiting how high the lip goes when the patient smiles. This procedure generally takes no longer than twenty minutes and the results should last up to 6 months.

If it is caused by a thin upper lip, The SoliDerma doctor will likely want to use a combination of neuromodulators and facial fillers to correct the problem. The Botox will be injected into the upper lip muscle and a dermal filler will be injected into the lip itself to add a bit of volume. This will result in a natural-looking plumper lip and less visible gums.

Gummy Smile FAQs

Q: How long do Botox results last?

A: It is common for the results of any Botox treatment to last up to 6 months. While it is a temporary solution, a neuromodulator can be injected again once results fade away.

Q: Am I a candidate?

A: If you are unhappy with your gums when you smile, laugh, and talk, you just may be an excellent candidate for a gummy smile reduction with Botox injections. Most patients interested are good candidates. Schedule a consultation today to see if this procedure is right for you.

Q: Are results visible immediately?

A: When getting Botox injections for gummy smile reduction, it is likely that you will see a subtle improvement immediately following the procedure. As with any neuromodulator treatment, however, full results will be evident within one week. As usual we offer all our patients a free follow up review with in the firs two weeks after the botox injection.
